BEYOND GLORY
Written and Performed by STEPHEN LANG
From the Book by LARRY SMITH

STEPHEN LANG adapted Larry Smith's book, BEYOND GLORY for the stage in 2003. After development and workshopping at The Actors Studio in NYC, BEYOND GLORY premiered in April, 2004 at The Women in Military Service for America Memorial Theater at the gates of Arlington National cemetery. In 2005, under a unique collaboration between the National Endowment for the Arts and the Department of Defense, Lang toured BG to US military camps, ships, and bases all across the globe, from the Persian Gulf to Korea's DMZ. That tour culminated in a performance at the US Senate to mark and honor Senator and MOH recipient Daniel Inouye's 80th birthday. Later that year BEYOND GLORY had a distinguished run at The Goodman Theatre in Chicago, followed by a 101 performance run in 2007 at the prestigious Roundabout Theatre in NYC. Throughout its production history BG has garnered critical and popular acclaim, as well as nominations for Helen Hayes, Joseph Jefferson, and Lucille Lortel Awards, as well as The Chairmans Medal for Distinguished Service from the NEA, and the Bob Hope Award from the Congressional Medal of Honor Society.

"I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what." - To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee

Although BEYOND GLORY perhaps represents Mr. Lang's most personal work, his career has been long and varied. He has performed in the classics from Shakespeare to Shaw to Shepard in some of the nations finest resident theaters, including The Guthrie, Yale Repertory Theatre, The McCarter, Circle in the Square, The Roundabout, The New York Shakespeare Festival, The Flea, and a score of others. Lang's work on the Broadway stage includes his own interpretation of HAMLET, SAINT JOAN with Lynn Redgrave, DEATH OF A SALESMAN with Dustin Hoffman, WAIT UNTIL DARK with Marisa Tomei and Quentin Tarantino, and premieres of A FEW GOOD MEN, THE SPEED OF DARKNESS, and DEFIANCE, receiving Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Tony nominations along the way. His work on television includes series regular roles in Michael Mann's CRIME STORY, THE FUGITIVE, and Steven Spielberg's, TERRA NOVA, as well as a memorable performance in the the title role in NBC's telefilm, BABE RUTH.

Lang has worked in the movies for many years as well in films such as LAST EXIT TO BROOKLYN, MANHUNTER, TOMBSTONE, GETTYSBURG, GODS AND GENERALS, WHITE IRISH DRINKERS, CHRISTINA, BAND OF THE HAND, PUBLIC ENEMIES, CONAN THE BARBARIAN, and James Cameron’s AVATAR. Among films scheduled for release next year are IN THE BLOOD, THE MONKEYS PAW, GUTSHOT STRAIGHT, and Stephen King's A GOOD MARRIAGE.

He recently entered the world of video games as the voice of CALL OF DUTY: GHOSTS.

Lang is a longtime member and former co-Artistic Director of The Actors Studio, and holds Honorary Doctorates from Jacksonville University and Swarthmore College.

A note of caution: The words spoken in BEYOND GLORY are authentic and, now and then, “salty”. It is not the author’s intention to shock or offend, but to honestly and accurtately represent these eight Medal of Honor recipients.
