The follow-up single, The Great Pretender, propelled The Platters to the number one position on the pop charts, providing the launch pad for their meteoric rise as crossover artists. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members THE SHIRELLES are the first all-girl group of the 1960’S Rock era. Heralded as the very first female supergroup, THE SHIRELLES went on to inspire a legion of female musicians to follow. Few performers have achieved such heights, earning a place in the pop culture consciousness for over 40 years. Originators of the Girl Group sound that is beloved by the Baby Boomer generation with hits, including “Soldier Boy,” “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow,” “Dedicated To The One I Love,” and “Mama Said.” With many others recorded by hundreds of artists including The Beatles, Aretha Franklin, Eric Clapton, The Mamas and The Papas, and Smokey Robinson. THE SHIRELLES have earned their exalted place in modern music history.
