To Market To Market…

From Farmer’s Markets to Market Night’s there is plenty for vendors of all trades to buy and sell their product in The Villages.

At the beginning of every single month, during the first full week, there are general Market Night’s starting Tuesday at Spanish Springs, Wednesday at Lake Sumter and Thursday at Brownwood Paddock Square. These have become popular nights where great bands take the stage and vendors can sell their wares.

These events are more geared towards handcrafted items, and you can typically expect to see items such as handcrafted nightlights, golf car equipment, artwork, jewelry and more!

If you are a fan of locally sourced product, the Farmer’s Market’s every Saturday at Brownwood Paddock Square, currently from 9AM-1PM is the place for you to shop around!

At the Farmer’s Market’s one can expect to find everything from the freshest locally sourced tomatoes, lettuce, strawberries and whatever may be in season to homemade guacamole, pies and pastries! Yum!

If being a part of either Market is something that you take an interest in, feel free to apply here for the committee to review. If selected, someone will reach out to you on further details pertaining to requirements and commitment.

Aside from helping to coordinate Market Night’s and Farmer’s Markets The Special Events Team also puts on many other types of events that many are familiar with. One of these includes Hometown Halloween, which they have been prepping for since this February!

With so much work behind it, Villagers are certainly in for spooktacular fun and games at this year’s festival.

If you would like to be a part of the Hometown Halloween event, they are currently looking for extra hands to help out as Special Events Manager Chalsi Cox explains,

“Volunteers would assist with carnival games, tickets and the Haunted House. We are currently on the hunt for “scarers” for our revamped Haunted House this year, featuring 8 rooms and 5 hallways awaiting to fright!”

If you or someone that you know is interested in helping out please contact Melanie.davidson@thevillages.com.

Find Your Perfect Seat At The Villages Box Office

The Villages is a place of endless activities and entertainment. If you have ever been to a show at Savannah Center, bought a ticket to the movies or have attended a comedy night at Lazy Mac’s Laughs, then it is likely you are familiar with one of the largest parts of the team that makes these activities possible- The Villages Entertainment Box Offices!

We spoke a bit with the Director of Ticketing and Customer Relations, Yasmeen Stogden who started her Dreammaker journey back in 2016 with The Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center.

“Though I was a customer relations liaison and box office clerk, my priority was always the patron’s experience. From the beginning, I recognized the passion/creativity of those around me and the support of a company that cares for its employees and patrons”.

These priorities and goals Yasmeen focused on created a higher standard of customer relations with patrons Villages led and eventually led her to The Villages Entertainment as Box Office Manager.

“When offered the position of Box Office Manager, I knew that position needed to be so much more.”
Yasmeen states,
“ It needed to provide a patron first experience, thus the Director of Ticketing and Customer Relations was born”.

Yasmeen may be the Director of Ticketing, but she has a whole team by her side to aid in servicing patrons so that all Villagers are able to take full advantage of the entertainment in The Villages.

For those who aren’t familiar, there are three ways that you can purchase tickets to The Villages Entertainment ticketed events. They are here on our website, by calling the Remote Box Office (352) 753-3229 or in person at a Villages Box Office Location.

Remote Box office and in person experiences are directed through Customer Experience Representatives. Yasmeen states the objectives of these Representatives and how they are truly a personable hub of knowledge for “what’s happening” in The Villages .

“Our Representatives goals are simply to provide a patron first experience while meeting the demand on any given day or location. As a CER, the focus is to maintain resources on the hundreds of events we provide annually while also staying informed of community events as well.”

Betsy (Mary Beth) Norris, a Customer Experience Representative of 5 years, explains why the role is so important and what it means to her.

Betsy is pictured on the right at Old Mill Playhouse Box Office.

“I like when someone comes to my window and I have the chance to help them make the right choices to best enjoy their experience. It gives me such pure satisfaction! That way they don’t just leave my window with a smile, but the event too!”

For new employee Jane Dalton, it’s also about helping patrons when life happens.

“I love working in a place where you can be an integral part of someone’s happiness. The best part is helping ease someone’s concerns when it comes to returning a ticket or helping them find that perfect seat at a show.”

There is never a dull moment in Entertainment with such a variety of options to choose from at vast price points, times and locations.

Just The Ticket For You

Summertime brings about an opportunity to fully appreciate a different experience in performing arts in The Villages. Suppose you are new to the community, a seasonal resident extending your time here, have family or friends planning a visit, or just looking for something different to do in the afternoon or evening. In that case, Victory Productions offers just the right ticket for you.

This summer, a delightful surprise is coming to the fabulous Studio Theatre Tierra Del Sol. The Studio is an intimate black box theatre that allows for an up-close-and-personal experience between the performers and the audience. Victory Productions presents four unique shows during their 2022 Summer In Residence series, which runs from May 6 through July 23.

Route 66 is the first show in the season and will run from May 6 through June 5. The show takes a dollop of Grease, mixes in some Pump Boys and Dinettes, and adds a generous dose of Forever Plaid, giving you the high-octane fun of Route 66! The musical journey takes us from the sounds of 1950s Chicago and travels along the ‘Main Street of America’ to the California coast with the surf music of the 1960s. With this coast-to-coast smash-hit musical revue featuring 34 of the most significant ‘Rock ‘n’ Road’ hits of the 20th century, you will be sure to get your kicks!

Next up is a total departure from any experience you’ve encountered in theatre. Lasting Impressions brings Impressionist masterpieces to life in three dimensions: world-class art meets technology at its finest. You not only look into the paintings of great Masters but look out from them for the first time. Thanks to Holographic 3D technology, you will sit with Renoir’s luncheon guests, dance with Degas’ ballerinas, float over Monet’s water lilies, and soar into Van Gough’s starry night. More than a feast for the eyes, this is a delight for the ears with the masterworks of Debussy, Ravel, and other well-known composers. Lasting Impressions also offers a” Paris Package for Two,” which will transport you to a Paris café at your table for two, a bottle of fine wine, light hors d’oeuvres, and delectable petit fours to finish off your Parisian experience. Lasting Impressions runs from May 9 through July 20.

A total turnabout comes with Nashville Hurricane when 40 years ago a mysterious acoustic guitarist appeared from nowhere, conquered the music industry, and vanished without a trace . . . until now. Chase Padgett embodies a manager, a mother, a mentor, and the guitar prodigy himself as each one tells their side of the rise, demise, and resurrection of the best guitar player you’ve never heard of . . . the Nashville Hurricane. Those who were fortunate enough to see Chase in 6 Guitars at The Studio or the Savannah Center already know the treat audiences will experience — Chase is one incredible talent! Opening night for Nashville Hurricane is June 10 and runs through July 3.

Last but certainly not least in the Summer In Residence series is the hysterical  I DO! I DO! This uproarious nostalgic memoir of two soul mates, Michael and Agnes, navigating the perils of life, is set to a tuneful, charming score. Beginning on their wedding day, the story takes the audience through fifty years of marriage, happiness and sorrow, good times and bad, childbirth, parenthood, and the eventual sadness from the now empty nest. This warm, sentimental journey reminds Michael and Agnes that love, the through-line in their life together, is at the forefront of their smiles and tears. And in the end, they face the future together while remembering their past. This story will resonate on some level with all who take this journey. I DO! I DO! opens on July 5 and runs through July 23.
